|
The 36th Round Lake Antiques Festival, sponsored by the Women's Round Lake Improvement Society, will be held Saturday and Sunday June 28rd and 29th, 2007 from 9 am to 5pm each day. The festival is held on the grounds and parks of the quaint historical Village of Round Lake, New York. Admission is free and shuttle bus services to and from the parking area will be provided. The show will go on rain or shine. The Round Lake Antiques Festival is the major fund raiser for the Town of Malta library in the Village of Round Lake. This event features over 200 nationally known antique dealers making their way from New York, New England, ten other states and Canada. This years' show will feature a well rounded sale of antiques, collectibles, vintage items, art, decorative accents, rarities and oddities. - American antiques, folk art, primitives, furniture, cottage and victorian antiques, glass, china, pottery, jewelry, orientalia, vintage textiles and linen, paintings and other art , clocks, outstanding lighting, decoys, dolls and toys, US military, American Indian, cast iron garden items, 19th century smalls, oak furniture, vintage decorative items, sterling and just about anything imaginable to please the taste of the novice to expert, collector to investor. This year, in additional to the festival, the Village will host the Third annual Night of Illumination celebrating the lighting of our Village with kerosene lanterns 120 years ago. Opening ceremonies will be held at the historic 1885 Auditorium in the center of the Village on Saturday night - including a community sing, concluding with the ringing of the tower bells – signaling houses throughout the Village to light hundreds of colorful porch lanterns at 9pm. The public is invited to stroll the Village streets and enjoy the charm of the lantern lighting event. This event is much like that of Oak Bluffs on Martha Vineyard, sister village to Round Lake. Just as Oak Bluffs started out as a Methodist meeting resort in the 1860's, homes are designed in concentric circles around the Auditorium. Now long separated from the Methodist Church, Round Lake was incorporated in 1969. Walking tours and house tours have attracted thousands of visitors over the years.
